Tales of home working - April
8 April 2020
We'd love to hear from SRS colleagues about your experiences working from home. Please send any stories or pictures to jamie.middleton@ucl.ac.uk.

After we were told that we were moving to remote working, I managed to make a quick exit from London and headed to my parent’s in Shropshire with the prospect of a bit more space than my shared flat. However, my two brothers also had the same idea so we now have a rather full house which has taken some adjustment but the company has been good on the whole!
Working from home is not something I’ve ever really had a go at before so it was quite a shock to the system as I’m sure it would have been for many people. One of the hardest things has been keeping that sense of routine that you get from the commute and going somewhere different to work. I have tried to make sure that I am still waking up with some time before I start work. This has meant that I have been trying to go for a run in the mornings (if you can call it that!) then getting ready for work, helping me to focus for the day. However, please be under no illusion that this has happened every day!
Another challenge has been that both my brothers and I have all now been working from home. We have had to work out a system for how to manage when one of us is on a call or meeting. This has meant that we now put the fox (pictured) outside the door of the living room to let everyone know we can’t be disturbed. So far the fox has not let anyone in!
I hope everyone is managing to keep safe and adjust to the new way of life in these difficult times.
