Fixing Portico to better support our research degree students

New online processes to replace current paper-based forms
Research students will soon be able to submit examination entries or apply for completing research status extensions online.
Replacing the current paper forms with more efficient and secure online processes will mean that students and staff will be able to track the progress of applications via Portico.
Moving these processes online, part of Fixing Portico, will have other benefits, including:
- simplified application process, as data held in Portico will be pre-populated on the form (eg student name and programme details),
- more accurate data, as information entered on the form will be transferred directly into the student’s record,
- faster response times, as the online workflow will deliver a more robust, streamlined application process, from submission to approval.
To support the accurate and efficient administration of research students’ records, two further processes are being developed:
- Automated calculation of expected end dates for students changing mode of study
- Process to make sure departments always have access to maintain student supervisory information
More information about these exciting new developments will be provided over the next few months.
