My researcher is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for two years to do a post doc in the lab. I studied psychology at the University of Mainz/Germany and wrote my thesis on evoked peripheral and central nervous responses to stimuli of different values during sleep. My PhD-work in Jan Born’s lab at University of Tübingen/Germany focussed on investigating the beneficial effect of sleep on memory storage. Sleep is thought to benefit memories during deep slow wave sleep by replaying memory traces that were encoded during prior wakefulness. My research mainly studied the neurochemical signals that may translate this replay into plastic changes for improved memory storage. I am especially interested how dopamine modulates neuroplasticity during sleep. At UCL I plan to perform an fMRI-study to investigate how reward memories are represented after sleep vs. wakefulness.
