Lunqiao Xiong received his Bsc degree in Materials Physics from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2015, and MEng degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2018. Currently, he is pursuing his PhD study in Prof. Junwang Tang's Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering of UCL. His current research focuses on the Z‐Scheme Water Splitting Systems.

Research project

Title: Rational design of Z-scheme photocatalyst sheets for efficient water splitting

In order to mitigate environmental and energy issues caused by mass consumption of exhaustible fossil fuels, the importance of developing alternative renewable and economically viable energy sources has been widely recognized. Based on electron-hole pair production in semiconductors, overall water splitting under sunlight has received much attention for production of hydrogen from water on a massive scale. However, current technologies suffer from low energy conversion efficiency and commercially unavailability. Development of efficient Z-Scheme water splitting systems with high efficiency, scalability, and cost-competitiveness is therefore targeted for H2 fuel production in the project. The fundamental understanding will also be explored in order to further improve its efficiency.
