Social Media Ambassador Job Description

The Social Media Ambassador position helps to coordinate and develop the online presence of departments across the faculties

Position Summary

Nature and Scope

The Social Media Ambassador position helps to coordinate and develop the online presence of departments across the faculties of Arts & Humanities and Social & Historical Sciences. You will be using social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram to talk about your experiences at UCL, your course and preparing for life in at university in general. The Social Media Ambassador serves as an online representative of your degree, your department and your faculty.

The Social Media Ambassador will liaise on social media accounts with staff monitoring. The Student Buddies will, however be the overall person responsible for populating the social media channels and will be given weekly topics to discuss, answer questions, share information and guide prospective students from accepting an offer with UCL all the way through to enrolment week.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate the social media presence and reach of departments and respective faculties through posts, shares, favourites, likes and comments on a regular basis

  • Serve as a digital point of contact for prospective students engaging with UCL by answering basic questions about relevant services, events and resources available and also signposting to staff support in departments (where required)

  • Work closely with the (joint faculty staff) to maintain and keep up-to-date information available to prospective students through social media

  • Collaborate with the joint faculties staff to create campaigns and online branding strategies to maintain high levels of social media engagement, including (but not limited to) competitions, hashtag generation, and student-friendly content creation

Contract Period

Flexible from March – October 2019

Please note: Training is mandatory for all students involved with social media activities before commencing work.

Remuneration

The Social Media Ambassador is compensated at a rate of (to add in) per hour plus (to add in) in lieu of vacation. The Social Media Ambassador will expected to commit to set pieces of work, (hours are not guaranteed and number of hours per week may change subject to demand). The Social Media Ambassador is expected to submit timesheets on a weekly bases. (Please note time sheets may be rejected if the work is not completed within the time allocation).

(Academics and) Time Commitment

We recognise that you will be undertaking this work alongside significant academic and other commitments. as such, this role is very flexible, however we recommend that you let us know how many hours you can do a week, and also times when you are not available so that we can offer work to other Student Buddies if you are not available.

Failure to complete work to deadline will result in you being removed from the Student b=Buddy scheme (if there is no valid excuse), so please do inform us if you may experience problems completing a task before the deadline.

Qualifications and Conditions of Employment

  • Excellent communication skills; proof of technical writing ability required

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to exercise creativity and critical thinking

  • Ethical judgement and sound decision-making skills

  • Good organisation and prioritisation skills

  • Skilled in Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat

  • Experience of using live chat functions (such as Facebook live) is considered an asset

  • Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy

Prior to the commencement of the term of the contract, each candidate must complete the following:

  • Attend mandatory training session

  • Completion and submission of all required paperwork to Unitemps
