Simon Chin-Yee
Dr Simon Chin-Yee is a Lecturer (Teaching) in International Development in UCL’s Department of Political Sciences.
Simon’s research interests focus on the global climate change regime and drivers of climate policy primarily on the African Continent. In 2017-2018, Simon was a research fellow in King’s College London’s War Studies Department, where he conducted a study for the European Centre for Climate Change, Energy and Resource Security which culminated in a strategy paper, ‘Climate change and human security: Case studies linking vulnerable populations to increased security risks in the face of the global climate challenge.’
Simon holds a PhD in Politics from the University of Manchester and a MA from the School of Oriental and African Studies. His doctoral research explored the influences on climate policy processes in the lead up to the Conference of Parties in Paris (COP21). In addition to his academic background, Simon has 15 years of experience in international cooperation and policy having worked on multiple projects for the United Nation’s Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s Social and Human Sciences Sector (UNESCO); e.g. the Greater Horn Horizon Forum, an independent forum/think tank for policy research and dialogue aimed at building consensus on a new vision for the Horn of Africa. He was also the Manager of International Cooperation at the École de Gouvernance et d’Économie de Rabat (Morocco), as well as working on research projects for the London School of Economics and Political Sciences’ Middle East Centre, the Nordic Council of Minsters’ Nordic Working Group for Global Climate Negotiations and the University of Manchester’s Politics Department.
