  • UCL Econ launches MacroMonitor, a real-time dashboard tracking UK GDP and inflation

In an increasingly uncertain world, the UK economy is subject to more frequent and larger unexpected events than ever before. Decision-makers find it harder to predict conditions next week or next month. Official forecasts aren’t available week by week, so often don’t reflect the latest news – leaving watchers waiting for them to catch up to the headlines.

The UCL MacroMonitor will provide reliable and timely signals for the UK economy for policymakers, business, academics, and the media. This new public dashboard – developed by leading academics using frontier methodologies – will offer nowcasts and forecasts for UK GDP and inflation, and provide a reference point for public debate and private sector decision-making.

Launch Event 5th June

Join us for the launch of this exciting new set of tools, relevant for anyone who watches the UK economy.

The keynote address will be given by Swati Dhingra, External Member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, followed by a panel featuring leading voices in the forecasting and policy space, including:

Ana Galvão, Senior Economist, Bloomberg Economics

Chris Giles, FT Economics Commentator

Simon Lloyd, Research and Policy Advisor, Bank of England

Ivan Petrella, Professor of Economics, Collegio Carlo Alberto and University of Turin

The presentations and panel will be followed by a reception.
