The role

We are seeking an organised and proactive Fieldwork Technician to support archaeological field training and fieldwork activities at the UCL Institute of Archaeology.

The postholder will provide dedicated logistical, teaching and welfare support for undergraduate archaeological field training, including two first-year training excavations each year and a number of additional Institute field projects across the UK. They will also support post-excavation training activities taking place throughout the academic year within the Institute.

The role is closely connected to the Institute’s teaching and fieldwork provision and will involve working alongside students and staff during the field season, which runs from May to August each year. This includes camping on-site during field schools, supporting day-to-day site operations, assisting with student welfare, and participating in an overnight on-call rota. The successful candidate will also help with the set-up and close-down of excavation sites at the beginning and end of each season.

The position offers an opportunity to play a central role in delivering hands-on archaeological training and supporting student experience in the field. The postholder will work closely with academic staff, students and colleagues from Archaeology South-East, the commercial archaeology division of the Institute.

The role is available immediately on a permanent basis.
