The series features scholars from the United States and around the world exploring the Declaration’s origins, meanings, and legacies. Jon’s episode, ‘Creating the Continental Army: Civil-Military Relations and the Declaration of Independence,’ examines the military grievances listed in the Declaration, including objections to standing armies, the independence of military power from civil authority, and the conduct of war against American civilians.
