EDI Board Organises Feminist Library Tour and Zine-Making Workshop

Participants learnt about the history and mission of The Feminist Library, one of the UK’s most significant grassroots archives of feminist, women’s liberation, and queer literature. Led by volunteer Avery Soave, students learnt how to engage with the archive’s unique classification system, and were invited to search the library for potential research resources. Pulling out publications that sparked interest, the group shared their findings with each other, touching on students’ existing research and sparking new threads of conversation.

Armed with their selected publications and making full-use of the library’s photocopier, participants learnt how to make their own zines inspired by 1970s feminist zine culture. After an hour of intense collage, drawing and writing the group shared their results; the zines demonstrated how archival material can inspire and be reinserted as an alternative form of print dissemination.
