Professor Mark Maslin publishes new essential guide to climate change

Designed as an accessible and comprehensive introduction to climate change, the book brings together the latest scientific evidence, political developments and practical solutions in a single volume. Featuring more than 50 diagrams, maps and graphs, it explores the history of climate science, the evidence for current climate change, future emissions scenarios, and the impacts of rising temperatures, changing weather patterns, melting ice and sea-level rise. 

The book also examines the international politics of climate change, tracing global negotiations from the Rio Earth Summit to the present day, alongside the emergence of net zero as a global policy goal. It considers the challenges and opportunities facing governments, businesses and individuals, with chapters dedicated to mitigation, adaptation and geoengineering. 

In its concluding chapter, Professor Maslin sets out practical recommendations for governments, companies and individuals, while arguing for broader international action to support a more sustainable global economy. 

A book launch for UCL staff and students is planned for later this year.
