UCL’s Map Library is a treasure trove of over two centuries of maps, documenting the intersections of science, politics, and education. Professor James Cheshire, Director of the UCL Social Data Institute, has catalogued this archive in his new book, The Library of Lost Maps.
From historic trade networks to the retreat of glacial ice, these maps provide insights into how geography shaped knowledge and society. The collection also reflects UCL’s founding mission to democratise education and disseminate “useful knowledge.”
