We were delighted to see ASE archaeologist Kayleigh Hibberd WIN Early Career Archaeologist! Kayleigh completed her Archaeological Technician Apprenticeship Level 3 with the Changing Chalk Project (National Trust) in April, for which she was nominated. This included training with ASE in environmental sample processing and excavation, and Kayleigh also volunteered on our Cooden World War One Camp excavations. We were thrilled when Kayleigh joined ASE as a field archaeologist back in October.

Kayleigh said:

The apprenticeship has been such a journey and I've loved every second of it. I never thought I'd be able to get into archaeology without a degree and so this opportunity has meant so much to me - and to gain an award for the work we've been doing on top of this is just amazing. The entire industry, both inside and outside of the National Trust, have been incredibly welcoming and supportive, and I'm just so grateful to everyone.

We were also very proud to be shortlisted among some incredible projects in the Learning, Training and Skills category for our placement year. We’ve been developing this innovative and tailored program of training for over 7 years. It gives third year UCL Institute of Archaeology students enviable experience and insight into a career in commercial archaeology.

Emily Johnson was at the awards representing all the ASE and Institute of Archaeology staff that make the placement possible. She said: “It was an honour for our placement year to be shortlisted among such incredible initiatives. It’s great to see how much focus is being placed on training volunteers, apprentices, students and employees across the heritage sector”.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners!
