Sara Perry joined the Institute of Archaeology (from Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA)) in June 2024 as Associate Professor in Digital Public Archaeology. She is leading on a number of research projects focusing on public archaeology, knowledge exchange and the use of digital media and heritage data in the cultural and creative sectors.
Sara has been appointed to the REF2029 Research Diversity Advisory Panel (RDAP) which will develop strategies to support the equitable recognition of diverse forms of research within REF 2029 development, delivery and assessment.
Rebecca Fairbairn, REF Director said:
Our new advisory panels will embed knowledge and expertise on the diversity of people, approaches to, and forms of research that are essential to the vitality of the UK’s research base. We are delighted to have been able to build panels full of people with the skills and experience needed to shape our criteria-setting and assessment processes from all four nations and from a variety of institutions.
The REF2029 Research Diversity Advisory Panel (together with the People and Diversity Advisory Panel (PDAP)) will advise the REF Steering Group on the development and delivery of the exercise, acting as critical friends; advise on the development of REF 2029 assessment criteria and the delivery of the assessment; and contribute to the REF 2029 assessment process.
According to Sara:
I am honoured to join the RDAP alongside so many other professionals who are committed to recognising the range of research which makes possible new ways of thinking, doing and being in the world. I’ve had the opportunity to work across industry, charity, government and academia with a range of local and professional communities internationally. In these contexts, data, methods and research outputs are necessarily different – they need to be broad and adaptable to serve people and the planet in responsible and equitable ways. I look forward to supporting the REF over the coming years in recognising and advancing such diverse research practices."
