Paul Johnson is well known for bringing complex economic debates to a broad audience. He has led the IFS to prominence in crucial economic debates, including the recent response to COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis.

Ahead of the announcement, Paul Johnson said that he was “delighted and honoured to have been made a visiting professor at the UCL Policy Lab”

“This is a hugely valuable and important initiative to bring more of the great work that goes on across UCL into the policy debate as well as to bring more policymakers into UCL. I look forward to working with all those involved and to making sure that IFS plays a central role in the Lab”.

The Lab will work with Paul Johnson to further energize public debate about economics. The Lab’s Director, Marc Stears was excited to welcome Johnson as one of the Lab’s inaugural Visting Professors. “People all over the country turn to Paul Johnson for insight into the most complex and important economics debates. At a time when so many families are experiencing such intense economic stress it is more important than ever that they can rely upon him and all of his colleagues to enhance the quality of our economic conversation. We are delighted the UCL Policy Lab can help with that work.”

The Policy Lab – born as a joint initiative between UCL’s Department of Economics and Political Science – is committed to supporting decision-making and public debate through innovative and collaborative research.
