Reformation Studies Colloquium
This event will be taking place from 15th to 17th April, 2026 at UCL, London.
About the Colloquium
The Reformation Studies Colloquium is a national conference held biannually in the United Kingdom. It is devoted to deepening our understanding of the religious reformations of the sixteenth century in all their aspects and relationships to other historical phenomena. For this purpose it brings together a wide range of specialists in the history of religion in the early modern era (circa 1400-1700), a majority of them based in the UK but also foreign scholars. It is not committed to, or affiliated with, any religious entity, and the scholars who present papers at it approach the history of religion from a variety of methodological perspectives.
Hosted in turn by different universities, the RSC will be convening in April 2026 at UCL in London. UCL prides itself on its historic commitment to religious and other forms of pluralism, and in 2026 will be celebrating its Bicentenary. The 2026 Colloquium will be hosted by UCL’s Department of History and form part of its Bicentenary programme of events.
The 2026 RSC will take place over three days, starting at lunchtime on Wednesday 15 April and concluding in the afternoon on Friday 17 April. It will feature seventy-six papers, organised into panels of mainly three papers each, with several panels running concurrently. Speakers include scholars at all career stages as well as postdoctoral research students. The Colloquium will additionally feature three keynote lectures:
- Professor Rosamund Oates, ‘Silent Histories: Deafness in the Reformation’
- Professor Craig Harline, ‘The Pastor’s Love Song’
- Professor Emily Michelson, ‘A multifaith reformation: spaces, bodies, encounters’
The Colloquium warmly welcomes students as well as scholars who are not presenting papers to attend its programme of talks.
