Do

Listen at each stop

Pause at each location before playing the relevant audio file. This allows you to connect what you hear with what you see.

Take your time

Set aside a few hours to explore — this walk rewards slow observation and reflection on how the past shapes the present.

Look for details

Notice architectural features, street layouts and signs of change. Many are clues to the area’s layered history.

Don't

Walk while listening

Avoid trying to follow the map and listen simultaneously. It’s safer and more enjoyable to stop before pressing play.

Ignore safety advice

Some areas are busy or under construction. Stay alert to your surroundings, especially near roads and redevelopment sites.

Stray too far from the route

The Bloomsbury–King’s Cross area can be easy to get lost in; keep to the map for the full historical sequence of the walk.
