Valentine Seymour
Valentine is from Kent, UK, and has a diverse background in the environmental field. Her experience spans environmental management, field ecology, and aquatic science research, as well as GIS, remote sensing, and social sciences.
She studied Environmental Science (BSc, 2010) and then pursued an MSc in Freshwater and Coastal Sciences (2011), sponsored by NERC, at Queen Mary, University of London.
Valentine is currently doing a PhD working with The Conservation Volunteers to develop a GIS and mapping tool. This tool will enable a detailed analysis of how environmental volunteering impacts individuals—their time commitments, social interactions, and perceptions of the quality and importance of green spaces.
Her research interests include qualitative and quantitative GIS analysis and visualisation. She explores the impact of environmental volunteering on social mixing, social values, and environmental injustice. Additionally, her work looks at how volunteering influences people’s perceptions, behaviour, health, well-being, and motivation.
