Political Economy and Geopolitics
UCL Geography’s Political Economy and Geopolitics cluster explores how trade, labour, borders, and finance shape the modern world using innovative approaches.
The Political Economy and Geopolitics Research Cluster explores how geopolitical and economic systems are being reshaped by the modern world. Our main focus is on the material aspects of these systems, including trade and global supply chains, borders, labour, finance, social reproduction and state institutions.
As a Cluster, we’re taking the lead on nontraditional approaches to these topics, including feminist political economy and concepts of the event and assemblage. Our aim is to find new ways of understanding the contemporary political-economic landscape.
Our research is of particular relevance to students on the MSc Environment, Politics, and Society, MSc Global Migration, and MSc Urban Studies courses. Through our work, students will have the chance to study at the cutting edge of the key theoretical developments, policy debates, and methods in these fields.
