Information for Academic Visitors
UCL Geography welcomes academic visitors from around the world for collaborative research, offering library access, office space, seminars, and engagement with UCL staff and students.
Eligibility for Acceptance
The Department welcomes academic visitors whose stay will be of mutual research benefit.
The UCL scheme is intended for academics from overseas who wish to spend a period of time at UCL, normally not less than four weeks and not more than one calendar year, pursuing their own research, individually or in collaboration with UCL staff in related fields.
- Normally hold established academic posts overseas in higher education institutions, or occasionally in industry or business.
- Apply to pursue research in consultation with UCL Geography staff.
Tip: Apply early to allow time for visas, travel, and other arrangements.

- Contact the Geography academic you wish to host your visit.
- Complete the application form and provide:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Statement of proposed research
- Head of Department approval.
- Formal invitation from UCL HR.
- UCL libraries & IT account
- UCL ID card
- Small office/hot desk
- Participation in seminars
Parking is extremely limited and not provided.
All visitors are expected to give a seminar presentation during their visit.
Fees and Expenses
Fees are pro-rata. Affiliation fees are in excess of £5,000 (for 12 months) and increase annually. Invoice issued shortly after arrival.

Assume the Department Handles Visas
Non-EEA visitors must obtain appropriate immigration clearance themselves. The Department does not process immigration or visa applications.
Rely on Department for Accommodation or Family Arrangements
Visitors are responsible for arranging their own accommodation, family support, and travel logistics.
