Bloomsbury Environmental Stable Isotope Facility (BEIF)
UCL Geography’s Bloomsbury Environmental Stable Isotope Facility (BEIF) analyses stable isotopes in sediments, plants, and archaeological materials to study environmental and geochemical processes.
The Bloomsbury Environmental Stable Isotope Facility (BEIF) is a shared facility between the Department of Geography and the Department of Earth Sciences and is located in the UCL Kathleen Lonsdale Building. Its focus is on the traditional light stable isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur from a large range of materials such as carbonates (sediments, foraminifera, coral & fish otoliths), bulk organic matter (insects, algae, amber) plants as well as samples from cave deposits, archaeological materials (bone, teeth, collagen & hair), and rocks.
