Celebrate 10 years of UCL’s Social Data Science Internship Programme bringing students and organisations together for real-world impact.
For a decade the UCL Social Data Institute’s Data Science Internship Programme has been successfully pairing talented students with organisations from across the private, public and non-profit sectors.
We would like you to join us at UCL to celebrate the students, academics and organisations that enabled helped us to achieve this important milestone, which also coincides with UCL’s bicentennial.
Over the course of the evening, you will hear from partner organisations, alumni, and current interns who will share their experiences of the scheme and the difference it has made to them.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Professor Jennifer Hudson (UCL Vice Provost)
- Professor James Cheshire (Director of the UCL Social Data Institute)
- Alan Smith OBE (Head of Visual and Data Journalism, the Financial Times)
- Martin Stabe (Data Editor, the Financial Times)
- Josh Martin (Reference Data Manager, Dods Political Intelligence)
- Matt Thomas (Head of Strategic Insight & Analytics, British Red Cross)
- Fem Alonge (Data Analyst at Octopus Energy Group; UCL alumni; former BBC Social Data Institute Intern 2020)
- Sarah Lim (3rd year UCL Geography student & Financial Times Social Data Institute Intern 2025)
- Dr Mikaella Mavrogeni (Transport Modeller, Transport for London)
It will be a chance for employers to learn more about hosting interns and the potential funding on offer. It will also be an opportunity to meet the staff and students from one the UK’s leading social data science programmes.
For current students and UCL alumni we want to use the occasion to celebrate your success and help build your network as you seek your next opportunities. And for UCL staff, we hope you can explore potential partnerships that will support knowledge exchange and impact.
So, whether you’re looking to host an intern, find an internship, reconnect with the programme community, or explore new collaborations, this event is a chance to celebrate a decade of past achievements and shape the years to come.
Refreshments, including light snacks and a range of drinks, will be available.
You can find out more about the UCL Social Data Internship Scheme on our website.
