Please join CSCA for an exhibition tour of ‘Conspiracies’ , an exhibition of work by four contemporary artists exploring how conspiracy has shapeshifted across cultural and political history, guided by the show’s curator Larne Abse Gogarty.
The culture and politics of our present are subject to the rapid and shape-shifting spread of conspiracy. Offering seductive fictions that claim to expose the hidden workings of power, conspiracies recur across history and are often tied to how people imagine their fate and fortune shaped by covert forces. Today, conspiracy theories drive political campaigns, cultivate moral panic, and promote racism and hatred of difference. Yet the history of conspiracy is also the history of radical movements and dissent against authority and exploitation. Conspiracy is not only a pathology of our present, but also a form of action and unruly association that provides a counterflow to powerlessness. In this exhibition, works by Hannah Black, Caspar Heinemann, Sam Keogh, and Shenece Oretha are presented alongside two panels from Aby Warburg’s unfinished image atlas, the Bilderatlas Mnemosyne that take up the subject of fortune.
The event will be open to UCL staff and students only.
