Future Crossroads: Charting New Paths in Eurasian Research

UCL staff and students are invited to the first Eurasian Crossroads Network (ECN) workshop ‘Future Crossroads: Charting New Paths in Eurasian Research‘ to be held at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, on Friday 20 June in Room 612 from 10 am until 5pm, and designed to bring together those colleagues whose work intersects with the vast and dynamic landscapes of Eurasia.

This informal gathering will serve as a space to map out our current research trajectories, uncover overlapping themes, and spark conversations that could lead to future collaborations. Together, we’ll explore where our interests align - from prehistory to modernity, archaeometallurgy to environmental sciences, and beyond.

We envision the workshop as a round-table event with short, informal presentations (15 minutes each), followed by open discussion. This format aims to encourage participation, spark dialogue across disciplines, and create space for sharing ideas - whether you’re presenting new research, a work-in-progress, or simply joining the conversation.

The workshop will also encourage us to think forward:

• What questions will shape Eurasian research in the next decade?
• Which topics are ripe for interdisciplinary exploration?
• How can we, as a collective, help define the intellectual contours of this field?

Whether your focus is material culture, environmental archaeology, linguistic histories, or political frontiers, your voice belongs in this conversation.
