Devolution in Northern Ireland

The Constitution Unit published an early assessment of the Belfast Agreement by Brendan O'Leary in 1998, and in 2001 Rick Wilford and Robin Wilson reported on the operation of the Northern Ireland Assembly. We also produced an early report on the British-Irish Council (2001).

The many twists and turns of devolution in Northern Ireland are recorded in detail in the Northern Ireland series of Devolution Monitoring Reports, 1999-2005 and 2006-09, produced by a team led by Robin Wilson and Rick Wilford.

In 2016 the Constitution Unit renewed its interest in Northern Ireland, in work being developed by Brian Walker (ex-BBC) and Alan Whysall (ex-NIO). Please contact them for further details.
