The Confucian concept Ren 仁, the quality that makes the individual and society ‘human’ or ‘humane’, is at the centre of contemporary Chinese ethical discourse and the CCHH takes up this debate in relation to health. We support interdisciplinary research and education in all these aspects of China’s health, and China’s impact on world health, past, present and future.
The China Centre for Health and Humanity brings together UCL’s considerable China expertise in an ambitious programme of teaching and research. We aim to develop existing connections and facilitate new collaborative initiatives with institutions in China, creating new spaces for dialogue and debate about effective and appropriate health interventions. The Centre is committed to UCL’s Grand Challenges especially as they relate to China: global health, sustainable cities, intercultural interaction and human wellbeing.
In China, CCHH collaborates with the Institute of Oriental Languages and the School of Medical Humanities at Peking University, and the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. In the United Kingdom, the Centre collaborates with Institute for Health and Human Development, University of East London
