Caroline Bernal Silva AED MSc Alumna

I am currently putting my degree to good use at The Trust for Public Land (USA), where I am the Senior Associate Director of Philanthropy. I work closely with our program staff to promote natural climate solutions by protecting land and creating parks in urban centers. I chose this organization in particular as it operates at the intersection of people and place. I learned from everyone involved with AED that we cannot begin to work within conservation or land usage without understanding people, cultures, and societies.

In my career since graduating from the programme, I have come to appreciate how much I learned that was of practical value, particularly through attending seminars at HERG and other London universities. Most importantly, I learned how to ask pertinent questions, in a gracious and informed way. This skill has allowed me to engage almost every person I meet on various aspects of the ‘sustainable development’ discourse and ask them the tough questions.
