Caryl Williams AED MSc Alumna

Dissertation: Biosecurity and bovine TB control in Wales, 2008

Current Role: Head of Strategic Evidence and Spatial Analysis, Environment and Rural Affairs, Welsh Government

The research methods component of the MSc was invaluable for me to join the Civil Service via the Government Social Research Profession. The fact that MSc bought together natural science with the social and cultural also provided a really useful foundation for the many years I spent working in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on often contentious environmental issues such as GM and biosecurity.

While my current role is wider than the social sciences, my background ensures I see the value of interdisciplinary approaches to evidence, with an emphasis on the importance of people and society in effective policy delivery.
