Undergraduate Programmes
Our professionally accredited BA and BSc degrees are designed to provide extensive general training in archaeology from some of the world's leading archaeological researchers.
Welcome to our 2025 new undergraduate students
The UCL Institute of Archaeology was one of 7 universities to be included in the first cohort of archaeology departments to be awarded CIfA accreditation. Our professional accreditation has now been renewed for a further 5 years (2025-2030).
Our undergraduate students learn about a full range of theoretical, analytical and field methods and also have the opportunity to follow their interests in particular chronological periods, geographical areas or special fields of study.

Diverse range of archaeological topics
Our degree programmes offer an unrivalled variety of optional modules, covering a very diverse range of archaeological topics in both a theoretical and a practical manner.
Optional modules include everything from Roman Art and Architecture to Archaeometallurgy and from Archaeology and Plants to Human Evolution and the Archaeology of Mesoamerica. Please note modules may not be available every year and may also be subject to change.
Fieldwork & Experimental Archaeology
Most of our Undergraduate Programmes include partially funded fieldwork opportunities. Our students undertake fieldwork both in the UK and overseas - recent locations include Spain, France and Montenegro to Belize, China and Uganda.
All first-year undergraduates studying at the Institute of Archaeology travel out of London to camp for several nights during the Experimental Archaeology Course.
