Historic building assessment

A detailed historic building assessment is often essential for securing listed building consent, especially when dealing with complex timber-framed structures. Through on-site analysis of the building’s fabric and research, we set out its history, development and significance, providing valuable insight for both clients and planning authorities. This informs design decisions and supports effective planning. We also assess the impact of proposed changes, helping to refine designs and achieve a successful application.

Historic building recording

The creation of a detailed historic building record may be required as part of planning or listed building consent. Our team has recorded buildings of all ages and scales, from castles to gasworks. We research and record rapidly and efficiently with the appropriate level of detail to ensure discharge of condition.

Conservation management planning

Managing heritage sites can be complex, and it’s essential to understand both their significance and their vulnerabilities. ASE has authored and contributed to numerous management plans for organisations such as the National Trust and English Heritage. We draw on a wide range of expertise - including historic building and landscape surveys, condition assessments, and heritage interpretation - to create clear, concise plans that are practical and accessible for end-users.
