We have a long track record of working with organisations in the public and private sector and offer a range of different ways in which you can collaborate with us and our network of scholars.

Seminars and Public Events

We hold regular seminars and events that are open to the public and which we invite you to attend. This is a good way of meeting staff and finding out more about the department.

We also run an ‘Anthropology in the Professional World’ seminar where organisations who are using ethnographic methods and anthropological approaches come and talk to our students about their work. Short Courses (Continuing Professional Development)

We run an annual taster course in digital anthropology for companies and individuals interested in finding out more about digital anthropology. The five day course is run over two weeks and provides participants with an introduction to theories and methods used within digital anthropology. The course provides an introduction to our work and can help you and your organisation decide whether to enrol employees on our MSc in Digital Anthropology. MSc in Digital Anthropology

The MSc in Digital Anthropology is one of our most popular masters programmes. It attracts both recently graduated students and people with many years of professional experience in industries ranging from media, tech, international development, advertising and web development. Our programme teaches students how to deepen their understanding of the relationship between humans and digital technologies. We help students understand and analyse recent technological developments in the context of culturally comparative examples of how people make the world through technologies and objects.

Internships

Our enthusiastic and high-calibre students are often interested in applying their learning to real-world problems. We work with companies to offer students paid internships of 1-3 months during their study, or up to 12 months after the completion of their MSc. Organisations who we are currently working closely with on internship programmes include Inventiv Health, Home Office, Google, Wizzili and the Corsham Institute.

Collaborative Doctoral Awards

We have a strong track record of working with companies and charities to create collaborative doctoral research projects. These longer term collaborations allow for in-depth studies of topics of mutual interest to the centre for digital anthropology and industry partners. Industry partners provide funding for training and expenses, whilst fees and living costs are covered by research councils. These collaborations offer an excellent opportunity for companies, charities and public sector organisations to invest in innovative, cutting edge research that is able to look in depth at the social impacts and effects of digital technologies. These projects often form the basis of long term institutional partnerships and can lead to further doctoral awards.

  • UCL/Konika Minolta: Reconfiguring Thermal Comfort in Offices
     

Research Partnerships

At the Centre for Digital Anthropology we are interested in building partnerships with organisations who have a shared ambition to understand the role of digital technologies in shaping human lives. We are interested in working collaboratively with partner organisations to develop areas of mutual research interest. We are not however a consultancy.
