11 March 2025

data storytelling workshops

On 27 and 28 February we held the first session of our Data Storytelling workshops at UCL and it was a fantastic experience for all who attended.

Led by Dr. Igor Tkalec, Assistant Professor in Social Data Science at UCL’s Social Data Institute, the workshop explored how data, narratives and visuals intersect to create compelling and actionable insights. Participants took part in hands-on exercises, learning how to frame data stories, structure narratives, and use visuals effectively to communicate complex information in an engaging way.

Guest speaker, Dr. Stephen Jivraj, Associate Professor at the UCL Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care and Director of the Centre for Longitudinal Study Information & User Support, shared valuable insights on data storytelling in academia, highlighting the impact of the national data infrastructure, the challenges of translating research, and the nuances of making it accessible beyond academia.

“A fantastic course! The content was superb, and the way it was presented was inspiring. Your invitation to be creative was a highlight.”
William Bradlow, University Hospital Birmingham, who attended the workshop.

If you are interested to find out more about the workshops or would like to attend please complete the register your interest form as there will be multiple iterations throughout 2025 and 2026 with more dates to be announced soon.
