Biography

Sandra has coordinated the Slade Short Courses and Summer since 2003 and works with the Widening Participation team. She trained as a painter at Wimbledon School of Art and The RCA.

She has a special interest in drawing and hands-on geometry as it relates to painting and drawing, and as a peripatetic educator uses geometrical templates as a pedagogical tool to explore number, space, rhythm, materials, tools and imagination in projects with diverse groups of learners, from primary schools to university. She has work in the Government Art Collection and is currently a fellow of Digswell Arts Trust.

Recent Slade/UCL teaching projects include: designing online courses in introductory Drawing and Painting during the lockdown of 2020. The online Drawing Course curriculum was used as a springboard by Liz Rideal in the design of a book/free online resource for students: Drawing 150 years. Widening Participation projects in collaboration with artist Lea Collet include an on-going introductory residential 1-week summer school for year 12’s; designing a 30-week Saturday School programme in East London for 13-16 year olds in tandem with Special Collections and Bartlett School of Architecture; and an online asynchronous resource for teachers ’10 Artists, 10 Experiences’.
