Remi Ajani – MA/MFA

My work deals with colour and gesture and is connected to an understanding of self and identity.  Through painting I am experimenting with being in a present dialogue with my own senses, instincts, and physicality and how that transfers into the materiality of paint. Painting allows me to reconnect with my own body and explore my curiosity expanding my practise beyond the confines of direct representation and figuration and into a world of abstraction. Painting becomes a plane of transformation, a flat surface that holds dimension, emotion and through mark making a multitude of meaning. Through painting in this way I explore my relationship to the interior and exterior world in relation to perception, reality, connection and disconnection.
