Garth Evans is a sculptor who began his career in Britain and now lives and works in New York. He studied at the Slade and taught in the famous sculpture department at St Martin's School of Art. As a sculptor and teacher his innovative and influential sculptural practice spans the generations between the abstract sculpture of the 1960s and the so-called object sculpture of the 1980s. 2013 saw a major retrospective of his work at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the remaking of one of the seminal sculptures of the 1970s, Breakdown, and the publication of a book surveying his work, Garth Evans Sculpture: Beneath the Skin.
