Faint is a single channel video in which the gesture of 'fainting' is used to embody the impossibility of holding an upright portrait of history. A story is told of the artist's grandfather, who, whilst being shot at in a line-up in The Second World War, fainted so the bullet didn't hit him. Documentary footage of his current day life is intercut with studio footage of the artist making repeated efforts to faint, highlighting the discontinuities and blood-links that make such retellings possible.

In the film, seven women retell a fictitious experience of parental trauma, alongside their own accounts of motherhood. Their narratives have been edited to form a multi-layered montage, a dissonant chorus. As with the oral mode of storytelling, inaccuracies happen, emotions distort, each telling absorbs its teller.
