My work is autobiographical, my body, life, environment and experiences inspire me to create work. I feel its important to make work about what i know, have felt and experienced. I feel that using my body is the most effective way to communicate to my audience. In life its necessary to make sense of the world and whats going on around us, by using my body, i feel the audience will gain a deeper knowledge and understanding, become present to something real and gain support and strength from my work.

ART, ARTIST & OBJECT I became an object in 1995 when i was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and went under the care of surgeon John Dorgan. throughout the illness, surgery, recovery i felt like an object, a hunchback, a patient, a piece of meat, a lump of clay. John Dorgan took control over my physical body, restructuring and sculpting my internal frame work, this consisted of removal of ribs, spinal discs, skin cut, stitched, body straightened and 18 inches of metal rod implanted. He took responsibility for my physical appearance by re-creating me, he produced a living sculpture, a piece of art. Through this i was able to develop and become the ARTIST.

ART, ARTIST & OBJECT is a body of work investigating the perception of the body, body image, how the body becomes an object and the use/abuse of the body.

I AM THE ART, THE ARTIST AND THE OBJECTS.
