CHEESE WIRE - 1996 - installation

Clear discourse presupposes 4 conditions
- A speaker who knows what he wishes to say,
- A listener in a state of wakefulness,
- Language common to both,
- A common experience of the thing spoken of.
Paul Daumal in, "A night of serious drinking"

STATEMENT
My work is concerned with the idea of "home." What do we mean by "home?" Home as a personal territory, wether a physical, a mental or an imaginary space; whether here, there or everywhere or nowhere. To speak of "home" is already to acknowledge Language as a construction. The work is an exploration of language; language as a transient space, both physical and mental; language as a tool of communication and articulation; language as a medium of translation. The work draws on the various popular mediums and semiologies that construct our notion of identity, place and presence. Thus it can originate in a photograph, a found object, the mass media or a piece of personal writing; but it always seeks to elaborate on the "trace" which carries me along from one work to the next.

CHEESE WIRE
There are moments when we all experience the state of mind known as losing one's head, with all the apparent symptoms of rage, confusion, frustration, dissatisfaction, violence etc... I have constructed an imaginary dialogue between the head and the body , which elaborates on the respective roles, duties, and associations in conjunction with one another.
