Overview
This eight-week course will help you explore the first principles of painting.
The emphasis of the course is on using painting as:
- a means for articulating form
- a tool for expression and creative imagination
During the course you'll develop a set of criteria which will help you to explore ways of representing perceived objects, and allow you to consider further possibilities within painting in your own time.
Classes are held on Monday evening, from 6pm to 8pm.
This course is run by the Slade School of Fine Art at UCL.
Course content
The course explores the idea of perception as the starting point for visual enquiry.
In each session you'll focus on a particular set of formal issues underpinning the nature of painting. Special attention is placed on colour and composition.
You'll paint from objects, the human figure, memory and secondary sources. At two sessions you'll paint from a life model.
You can choose to work with oils or acrylic.
