Leadership Communication in English for Non-Native English Speakers

Overview

This online, interactive workshop will help non-native speakers of English to: 

  • develop professional leadership communication
  • deliver more effective messages
  • better influence English-speaking individuals, teams and stakeholders

Working through different managerial disciplines, you'll expand your skills and learn to communicate more positively within an English speaking corporate environment.

The course will be taught online using Zoom. Sessions will be held from 9am to 12pm, over four days.

This course is run by UCL's Division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PaLS).

Course content

Topics covered by the course include the following:

  • Communication and cultural differences
  • Personal impact: building rapport, subtleties of English words, body language
  • Influencing skills: influencing styles, presenting ideas, effective messaging
  • Constructive conversations
  • Giving feedback

You'll have opportunities to practice the skills you're learning, and discuss your own work-related situations.

You'll receive coaching and constructive personal feedback throughout the day.

Learning outcomes

This workshop will help you to:

  • improve and strengthen your leadership communication skills
  • understand the subtleties of the words you use
  • refine your language
  • deliver more effective messages in an influential and more appropriate manner
  • understand and implement different managerial techniques

Certification

You'll receive a certificate of attendance when you complete the course.

Pre-course preparation

You'll be sent a Zoom link for the course.

You must ensure that your microphone and camera are fully functioning. You'll need these to take part in discussions and pronunciation practice.

Josette Lesser

Josette has been a communication skills trainer, executive coach and lecturer for over 19 years. She's a certified coach and a member of the Association for Business Psychology.

She studied business management at Middlesex University, and started her first Company at 24, attracting clients such as Unisys and Pepsi Cola.

In 2007, Josette formed her training company, The Communication Experts, working with clients in the public, private and third sectors, including Microsoft, Highways England and Volkswagen.

An alumni of UCL, Josette holds a 1st class honours degree in linguistics. She's a qualified teacher of English as a foreign language (TEFL), and a tutor on UCL’s Division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PaLS) Summer Course in English Phonetics (SCEP).
