Bartlett Summer School

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • 1 week (5 days), 2 weeks (10 days), or 3 weeks

Overview

This Summer School will give you a taste of studying architecture at The Bartlett School of Architecture.

You'll explore imaginative thinking, surveying, speculation and construction, making use of The Bartlett's outstanding workshops and facilities.

You can expect to produce a range of work including drawings, models and larger-scale installations.

You can choose to attend for 5 days, 10 days or 3 weeks.

You also have the option of attending an additional one-day Portfolio Workshop and/or Maker's Week at the end of your chosen Summer School.

Who the Summer School is for

The Summer School is open to 16 to 18-year-olds from all over the world.

What it involves

You'll work in groups and individually to produce drawings, objects, models and larger installations, under the guidance of The Bartlett’s skilled tutors.

Previous years' students have developed and presented projects in different media, such as installation pieces, single drawings, walking models, books and performing apparatus. Find out more about previous years' Summer Schools in our image gallery.

The summer school ends with a joint one-day exhibition of work. A private view will give staff, students and their guests a chance to celebrate the work produced during the course. You'll receive a Certificate of Study on completion of the course.

Five-day Summer School

You'll visit several architectural exhibitions, offices and sites of interest before working for three days on a collaborative drawing or model, informed by your experiences.

Ten-day Summer School

You'll work on an individual piece, designed throughout the course responding to a brief, supported by intensive tutorials and studio sessions.

Three-week Summer School

You'll produce a high-quality sequence of work. Through intensive teaching, you'll be encouraged to experiment and to test new concepts, materials and ideas.

Portfolio Workshop and Maker's Week

The one-day Portfolio Workshop will help you consolidate the work you've produced and learn how to make a portfolio for university entry. You'll learn the principals of portfolio making and be able to discuss portfolio ideas with the tutors.

The Maker's Week is a one-week course where you'll be introduced to new architectural materials and skills, working with B-made, The Bartlett Manufacturing and Design Exchange.

Both this workshop and Maker's Week are optional extras for those attending the Summer School.
