Dr Maria Chiara D'Argenio
Dr Maria Chiara D’Argenio (MA, PhD) teaches modules on Spanish language and Literature (2015-16) and Latin American and Spanish Film (2016-17), and co-coordinate the Department Research Seminar. She has previously lectured on Latin American Visual Culture at King’s College London and on Spanish American Literature at the University of Naples. She specialises in Latin American, particularly Peruvian, visual and cultural studies. Her research interest lies in the aesthetics and politics of visual media in relation to issues of indigeneity, modernity, conflict and national identity and in how contemporary practices mediate regional and national issues for the transnational audience. Dr D’Argenio has in preparation a special issue of Revista Iberoamericana on Latin American illustrated magazines and a monograph on visual culture, politics and temporality in Peru. Her articles on Latin American cinema, Peruvian visual culture and Spanish American literature have appeared in peer reviewed journals in Europe and the Americas.
