Ms Marga Navarrete
Marga Navarrete is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she teaches Spanish, translation and localisation at UCL. She also runs the ‘Inside the Translation Industry’ a programme to provide postgraduate translation students with useful ideas about how to move into the next step of their careers.
Her PhD focus is on the impact of active Audio Description tasks in Foreign Language Learning (FLL). She holds a BA in English Studies from the University of Seville, an MA in the Teaching of Modern Languages and a Certificate in Online Education Training (OET) both from the Institute of Education, London. She also holds a post-graduate Certificate of Advanced Study in Learning and Teaching (CASLAT) from Imperial College where she taught Spanish and Translation for many years.
Her research interests include teacher training, e-learning and the application of audiovisual translation to FLL. She has been granted funding for several projects to develop FLL resources and online courses. She has given workshops, presented papers at international conferences and delivered distance courses in e-learning and in the application of technology for language learning aimed at teachers. She has also published resources for the training of academics in online education. More recently she has been working on the EU funded ClipFlair project, designing, piloting and publishing translation audiovisual tasks for language learning and disseminating the lessons learnt. Also, she has taken part in VICTOR (VoIce-over aCtiviTies to improve oRal production skills) research project run by the UNED (Spanish Distance University).
At UCL she is Language Coordinator as well as teaching the following modules for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in translation:
