The Wellcome Trust is funding awards to give promising undergraduates experience of research during the summer holidays, with the aim of encouraging them to consider a career in research.
The Scholarships form part of the Wellcome Trust's new strategy. Unfortunatley the scheme will not be running in 2021, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to open for applications in 2022.
Applicants can apply for the Biomedical Vacation Scholarship if they are currently studying for an undergraduate degree, in a relevant subject at a university in the UK or Republic of Ireland, and the application desires to find out more about research in biomedical sciences. Examples of relevent subjects would include, and be not limited too;
- science (including biomedical, natural, computing or physical sciences)
- veterinary medicine
Applicants can apply even if they have not yet taken a period of research in their degree yet, and are in the middle year(s) of their studies.
Students from backgrounds that are currently underrepresented in postgraduate science research, including black and minority ethnic (BME) students and those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, are highly encouraged to apply.
What the Scheme offers:
A Biomedical Vacation Scholarship would cover a time period of six to eight weeks. It provides a salary at the real Living Wage, regardless of age.
