UCL Dean’s Prize – Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences

The Dean's Prize supports overseas fee-paying students who have won a competitive scholarship to cover their stipend, by waiving the international fees.

The Dean’s Prize is available to students wishing to pursue research degrees in the Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences.

Guidance for applicants

Applications for the Dean's Prize must include the following:

  • Short (1 page maximum) description of your proposed research project

  • Copy of your CV 

  • 2 References

    • Reference number 1 should relate to your most recently completed university programme/degree (or the one you intend to complete, if applicable) and can be the same referee who submitted a reference as part of your admission application. Please use: 


       
    • Reference number 2 should relate to your current or intended research programme/project, for which you are seeking funding. This reference MUST be provided by your research supervisor at UCL. If you are a prospective student and your supervisor has not yet been allocated, please contact your department to confirm who your UCL supervisor will be. Please use:


       

Applications should be submitted to your respective department by Wednesday, 15th January 2025. If you have any questions about the Dean's Prize please contact the Departmental Graduate Tutor (DGT) in the department to which you are applying. 

 

Guidance for Academic Departments

  • Written confirmation by the relevant Head of Department that they support the submission and agree to the shortfall in their budget due to the waiver of fees must be included in all applications 

  • If your department is submitting more than one application, applications must be ranked in order of preference by Departmental Graduate Tutors before submission

Supervisors can find additional information, including a more extensive list of the information and supporting material required from their Departmental Graduate Tutor.

 

Important note for students intending to apply for China Scholarships Council funding for MAPS, IOE faculty, and open awards*:

  • Successful candidates will be notified of their provisional fee award in April 2025, an official funding letter will be provided by UCL and candidates should include this in their separate CSC application for co-funding.
  • Successful CSC applicants can expect to be notified of their final award, via the CSC application portal, in June 2025 (to be confirmed).
