UCL Access Opportunity Scholarship

The purpose of the Access Opportunity Scholarship is to support those, who because of their immigration status are not able to secure student loans for their higher education.

Value: Full tuition fees and allowance for study costs for the duration of the programme. Two scholarships are available. 
Available to: Prospective students
Selection criteria: Personal & financial circumstances and residency status 
Eligible programmes: All undergraduate degree programmes
Deadline: Monday 18 May 2026

Eligibility

Applicants should:

  • Hold an offer of admission to UCL to study a full-time undergraduate degree for 2026/27 intake and;
  • Be asylum seekers, children of asylum seekers or unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who are seeking asylum in the UK or forced migrants who are based in the UK and have been granted a temporary form of leave as the result of an asylum application or human rights application (e.g. limited leave to remain, discretionary leave to remain, humanitarian
    protection) and;
  • Be unable to access student finance (tuition fee or maintenance loan) because of their immigration status.

Value, benefits, and duration

The scholarship will consist of tuition fees and an allowance of £13,762 pa (this is the 2025/26 rate; 2026/27 to be confirmed) for the normal duration of your programme at UCL. Please note the allowance may be reduced if your leave status has restrictions on what additional support you can receive. 

Annual renewal of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progress.

We will take your personal and financial circumstances, as well as your residency status, into account. Please ensure you answer all questions in the application fully.
