Postgraduate scholars networking event
19 February 2025
UCL’s Student Funding Office hosted a Postgraduate Scholars Networking Event in January, welcoming students from graduate taught courses to enjoy a variety of drinks and nibbles with fellow scholars from across UCL.

UCL has a range of scholarship schemes aimed at supporting domestic and international students financially across a broad range of subjects. The event welcomed award holders from the Brown Family Bursary, Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme, UCL Global Masters Scholarship, GREAT Scholarship, Professor Sir Malcolm Grant Postgraduate Taught Scholarship, UCL-Marshall Scholarship, UCL Masters Bursary and the UCL India Excellence Scholarship.
Attendees included Management MSc student Tanvi Gupta, who is a recipient of the UCL India Excellence Scholarship, which aims to support outstanding academic Indian students to study a Master’s degree at UCL.
She recounted her experience at UCL as a scholar: “I’ve met people from different backgrounds and from different cultures. The learning experience is great at UCL, you get to learn from your peers and you get to attend many events. I feel like I also have grown as a person living here, because it gives you a new perspective on many things, like student life in London.
Being a scholar is always nice. I’m a recipient of the India Excellence Scholarship, which is based on merit. Hearing I’d been selected for the scholarship was great news for me and my family. Plus we get to attend networking events with other scholars from other places.”
Aafreen Shah, who is studying for an MA in Education and International Development shared, “I’m a Commonwealth Shared Scholar at UCL and my journey since arriving in London five months ago has been amazing. It’s been challenging, it’s been fun, and I’ve met some spectacular people in my classes. The UK system really challenges you to become an independent thinker and scholar. The kind of opportunities I’m getting in London in terms of networking and the people I’m meeting are fantastic. I’m very grateful to be here, and I’m hopeful that my remaining time in London is equally exciting.”
Postgraduate Funding Manager Clare Hewitt opened the event with a short speech welcoming the scholars.
“It is fantastic to welcome UCL scholars to our supportive scholar community. You are joining us from the UK and all over the world and you represent such a wide range of disciplines at UCL. It is this diversity which makes UCL such an exciting place to be so thank you for your contribution.”
