Standards of Conduct and UCL Sanctions
The Code of Conduct for Students at UCL and the UCL Substance Use and Misuse policy explain what is required of students at all times both on and off UCL premises. The UCL Student Disciplinary Code and Procedure outlines what procedures UCL will undertake in the event of students who are convicted or face criminal charges at any point during their registration at UCL.
The UCL Alcohol & Drug Misuse Policy and the UCL Staff Disciplinary Policy and Procedure clarify that conviction or being charged with a criminal offence within or outside the workplace or working hours could be deemed as misconduct or gross misconduct.
Legal sanctions in the UK
Unlawful possession or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol may lead to sanctions under UK law under the The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. The sanctions will vary depending on the nature of the offence and how harmful the drug is thought to be. A useful summary of the sanctions can be found on the DrugWise website. DrugWise are a registered and independent charity based in the UK.
Health risks
Use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol can lead to significant health risks, including depression, liver damage, panic attacks and heart problems. The UCL Union provides information on these and other health risks as well as useful weblinks and helplines.

UCL's Substance Use and Misuse policy outlines support for students seeking help for drug and/or alcohol abuse.
UCL Psychological Services are available to students who need help and guidance on any drug or alcohol abuse issues or concerns. Other sources of help are also available.
