Risk assessment at UCL
This instructor-led workshop will help staff and students to develop skills in assessing the risks associated with their workplace and complete a suitable and sufficient risk assessment.
Course description
In any workplace or academic environment, understanding and mitigating potential hazards is essential for ensuring everyone's safety and well-being. The "Risk Assessment at UCL" training is a 2-hour and 15-minute interactive instructor-led workshop. It's designed to give you the knowledge and practical skills you need to conduct effective risk assessments.

Prerequisites
You must complete the Principles of Risk Assessment eLearning module before attending the course.
All safety instructor-led training courses are delivered by our team of safety experts.
Objectives
During the workshop, you will gain a clear understanding of the entire risk assessment process. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
- Clearly describe activities, locations, and the people involved in a risk assessment.
- Evaluate risks using the UCL risk matrix and apply the hierarchy of controls when determining effective control measures.
- Effectively plan and review a risk assessment, including understanding the approval process and using the riskNET system.
Target audience
All staff involved in the carrying out, reviewing or approving of risk assessments.
Cost
Training courses are free to UCL staff however your Department will be charged £50 if you fail to attend when booked on a course.
