Basics of radiation safety training

An introduction to radiation safety for UCL Radiation Workers. Learn the basics of ionising radiation, safety principles, and controls at UCL.

Course description


This eLearning course will ensure that all UCL Radiation Workers have a foundational knowledge of ionising radiation, safety principles and radiation safety controls at UCL before proceeding to more detailed training. It is a prerequisite for the Safe Handling of Unsealed Radioactive Sources instructor-led course provided by Safety Services and can also be used for refresher training.

Objectives


Completing the training will give you an understanding of:

  • The basic concepts of different types of radiation and the associated units that you may use.
  • The principles we use to work with radiation safely and their underlying concepts.
  • The radiation safety controls at UCL and how they are implemented through the management system.

Target audience


All UCL staff, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates who intend to work with radioactive materials must complete this course.

Cost


Training courses are free to UCL staff however your Department will be charged £50 if you fail to attend when booked on a course.  Non-attendance at first aid courses will incur a higher non-attendance fee.
